GIVEAWAY – Dudek Modern Goods “The Sprout” Pen Stand

Dudek Modern Goods
“The Sprout” Pen Stand

What is it: The Sprout is not only a pen stand, but also an excellent way to bring some often-needed greenery to your desk setup. Instead of being packed with holes for a million pens, this solid walnut block has room for three of your favorite writing instruments and a small pot for planting a succulent (or other tiny plant). Read on for more details about this piece, as well as a giveaway!

Dudek Modern Goods Planter Review and Giveaway-1-2Where you can get it: Want to guarantee holiday delivery? You can snag one of these stands right now over at Dudek Modern Goods for $49 (plant not included, but it does come with the steel pot). Save an additional 10% on your order using the code “EDSENTME”, which is live through the end of November.

Dudek Modern Goods Planter Review and Giveaway-2Notes: This is the 4th or 5th piece by Mike that I’ve reviewed on the site. He’s a one man operation that cranks out these awesome, minimalist pen holders out of his workshop in Arizona. Each piece is made from solid walnut, and lightly finished with oil. The result is an organic, modern, yet somehow still classic looking desk piece that’s just as functional as it is beautiful. The Sprout holds 3 pens, while The Planter model holds 9. I opted for the 3 pen version just to keep things simple. The included steel planting pot is perfect for a small succulent, or in my case an old one that’s definitely seen better days (I need to get to the store).

Dudek Modern Goods Planter Review and Giveaway-5The craftsmanship on The Sprout is excellent, as expected from DMG. The corners are sharp, the edges are square, and the holes are straight. I admire him for his attention to detail. I think that if I were to attempt this myself, it would look more like modern art, but like in a bad way. Even though the piece looks simple, it’s the attention to detail that really makes it shine. On the bottom of The Sprout is a branded Dudek Modern Goods logo and some felt feet that will keep it from scratching up your desk. This one is going to my office at work, where I could absolutely use some greenery. I love the idea for The Sprout and The Planter, so I jumped at the offer to give one away to a lucky reader.

Disclaimer: Oh my goodness, how did I forget a disclaimer!? I’m not making money off this, and Mike at DMG is giving this away for free. He’s a good dude. His last name is Dudek. Coincidence? I think not. Yes, I got to keep one for my desk, and to take photos of but let’s be real, this is more of a giveaway than a review.

  1. I have a Block. I think it has 21 holes. It’s a lovely way to see your pens on your desk and not have them hidden away in cases. Thanks for the chance to win.

  2. The Sprout is definitely my favourite with The Stationer a close section. Great combination of design and function!

  3. I love my Cube…it was an awesome and welcome gift from a fellow pen person. The Sprout, however, looks incredibly nice. Something green on my desk ( besides an ink stain) would be welcome!

  4. My favourite has to be the daily – it’s just what you need and nothing more. However, the sprout would be excellent too for someone’s desk at work.

    Thanks for running this! 🙂

  5. I actually think the Sprout looks the best! What a rest way to add a little touch of green. I prefer it over the larger versions, as well, because I tend to think that something that holds more than 5 pens is just overkill.

  6. Probably the Stationer is my favorite. It would hold all the pens and pencils I would currently be using, and keep all my commonly used notebooks nearby and tidy. It would be neat to see a unit to just hold books and have pens separate.
