GIVEAWAY – Dudek Modern Goods “The Sprout” Pen Stand

Dudek Modern Goods
“The Sprout” Pen Stand

What is it: The Sprout is not only a pen stand, but also an excellent way to bring some often-needed greenery to your desk setup. Instead of being packed with holes for a million pens, this solid walnut block has room for three of your favorite writing instruments and a small pot for planting a succulent (or other tiny plant). Read on for more details about this piece, as well as a giveaway!

Dudek Modern Goods Planter Review and Giveaway-1-2Where you can get it: Want to guarantee holiday delivery? You can snag one of these stands right now over at Dudek Modern Goods for $49 (plant not included, but it does come with the steel pot). Save an additional 10% on your order using the code “EDSENTME”, which is live through the end of November.

Dudek Modern Goods Planter Review and Giveaway-2Notes: This is the 4th or 5th piece by Mike that I’ve reviewed on the site. He’s a one man operation that cranks out these awesome, minimalist pen holders out of his workshop in Arizona. Each piece is made from solid walnut, and lightly finished with oil. The result is an organic, modern, yet somehow still classic looking desk piece that’s just as functional as it is beautiful. The Sprout holds 3 pens, while The Planter model holds 9. I opted for the 3 pen version just to keep things simple. The included steel planting pot is perfect for a small succulent, or in my case an old one that’s definitely seen better days (I need to get to the store).

Dudek Modern Goods Planter Review and Giveaway-5The craftsmanship on The Sprout is excellent, as expected from DMG. The corners are sharp, the edges are square, and the holes are straight. I admire him for his attention to detail. I think that if I were to attempt this myself, it would look more like modern art, but like in a bad way. Even though the piece looks simple, it’s the attention to detail that really makes it shine. On the bottom of The Sprout is a branded Dudek Modern Goods logo and some felt feet that will keep it from scratching up your desk. This one is going to my office at work, where I could absolutely use some greenery. I love the idea for The Sprout and The Planter, so I jumped at the offer to give one away to a lucky reader.

Disclaimer: Oh my goodness, how did I forget a disclaimer!? I’m not making money off this, and Mike at DMG is giving this away for free. He’s a good dude. His last name is Dudek. Coincidence? I think not. Yes, I got to keep one for my desk, and to take photos of but let’s be real, this is more of a giveaway than a review.

  1. The Sprout is my favorite- a friend at work has one and the craftsmanship is amazing- burn the block is a close second. Love the blog- thanks for all you do!

  2. I have an Idea Dock V2 and I love it so much; I write my critical daily to-do list on an index card every day and the Idea Dock keeps it from getting lost in a sea of paperwork.

  3. My favorite would be the STATIONER. It’s nice to have a place to put my journal. That and I’d be too tempted to replace the plant with ink for dip pens, being a calligrapher and all.

  4. The Stationer would be the most useful for me. It holds a good number of pens, plus whatever I put in the slot part would be the one thing on my desk easy to find.

  5. I have a Divide on my desk, but I wish I had gotten the block instead. Now, I am thinking that I just want the one with the planter. But in real life, they are all beautifully crafted pieces.

  6. Sprout and Planter. Love the planter or makeshift “pen cup” for the disposables. Would be nice if Mike did all 5/8″ option though.

  7. I’m torn between the sprout and the display. The display with the exposed pens make for an extremely clean and modern look so it takes my pick.

A version of the sprout with 3 exposed pen slot like the display would be perfection itself.

  8. When I bought my first Dudek piece earlier this year, it was tough to decide. I almost got the sprout but opted for the original cube.
