Notes:
The Zebra Surari Emulsion Ink ballpoint is loaded with a smear-proof, water resistant hybrid gel/oil ink. The emulsion ink is markered to have the smoothness of an oil-based ink with the brightness and vibrance of a gel ink. Since I only have the black ink model, I can’t speak for the the color, but the black line goes onto the page smoothly. The lines made are solid, and there’s not skipping to be found. I really hate the broken up line of a crummy ballpoint, and I don’t have to worry about that at all here.
The pen leaves a neat, fine line and writing is buttery smooth. Also worth noting, the pen is labeled as 0.7mm, but the line appears to be thinner than that, I think it’s closer to a 0.5mm. The knock has a nice strong spring behind it, making the extension of the pen satisfying with a nice click. The Zebra Surari comes in a ton of colors and widths, so there’s something for everyone.
Appearance:
The body of the pen is pretty basic. It has a nice contour that that widens slightly at the grip, making for a comfortable writing session. The pen is very light, as most pens that are made from cheaper plastic are. The rubber grip is very thin, it provides no cushioning, but a nice amount of grip. It’s smooth to the touch, and not tacky like some grips can be. There are a few wavy lines in the grip for added grip and aesthetics.
The clip isn’t exactly a tank, but it’ll get the job done for holding onto a pocket, pen case, or a few pages of a notebook. It’s all plastic, but it should hold up for the life of the pen, provided you aren’t too tough on it.
Overall:
Pens like this are actually starting to change my mind about ballpoints. Even before fountain pens, I used rollerballs, and now I regret writing them off for so long. The smooth writing, without skipping or ink blobs make the Surari a winner for $1.65. Many color options, water resistance, smear proof ink, and super smooth writing round out a solid ballpoint offering from Zebra.
Recommendation: Yes, 100%!
