Intro:
I’ve been friendly with Keegan over at One Star Leather Goods for some time now. We got to talking, and he suggested sending over a notebook cover and watch strap for review. As you can see, I was happy to oblige. This is my first year using a Hobonichi Techo, and I wanted a cover to keep it nice for the use that it will be seeing. Let’s take a closer look at this beautifully made cover by One Star Leather.
Oh right, there’s also a giveaway!
Keegan was generous enough to offer up an $80 gift card!
Entry details at the bottom of this post.
Materials and Construction:
I’ve reviewed some pen cases by OSLG before, and I was quite happy with them. I’m just as happy with the notebook cover. OSLG uses the finest leathers from Horween and a few other tanneries. I opted for the natural chromexcel outer and black chromexcel inner. The stitching is waxed blue thread that’s guaranteed for life. Let’s start with the materials. They’re top notch. Chromexcel is a heavily waxed leather and you can tell just by touching it. It’s soft, yet rugged and smells fantastic. The edges aren’t truly burnished, as the leather doesn’t take to it, but they’re polished smooth. The stitching is evenly spaced, tight, and neatly done. Going over the cover, it’s hard to find anything wrong with it.
Usage:
As more time passes, the leather has began to open and close more easily. It was never really hard to open and close, but the small amount of break in has been nice over the past few weeks. The snap closure is sturdy, but not too tight. You can definitely slip a pen in between the strap and the book. The cover is really easy to get on, but do take some care.
The sleeves(?) that the covers slip into are pretty deep. Why is this a good thing? Because it keeps the notebook firmly planted in place. I opted for my initials in the inside of the cover. You can see how far out the sleeve for the cover extends. It goes nearly to the spine of the book. The cover folds nice and flat, so it does not interfere when writing.
Conclusion and Giveaway!
The One Star Leather Goods custom notebook cover is a great home for my Hobonichi. I’m not worried about wearing out the cover of the book. The leather cover not only looks great, but it also provides a nice layer of protection without being overly bulky. I’m really excited to see how the cover wears in over time. It’s nice to have such a quality piece that I can use for years to come!

Thanks to you and One Star for the giveaway!
I’ve b en eyeing a OSLG notebook cover for a while. Have to say that would be my choice. Only question would be size. I’m thinking A5 to fit my Hobonichi Cousin But maybe smaller to fit my techo (don’t ask I like planners).
I’ve been yerbig for an A5 notebook cover from One Star since I first saw the stuff he sells. Pretty sure I saw it here.
I’d go for the cover made for the Leuchtturm 1917 Pocket Notebook, to do some sketching on the go.
Would love to have a hobo cover!
I think I’d probably choose a field notes cover. Thanks for the chance!!
Field notes cover.
I’d order the Park Sloper in shell cordovan, or maybe the A5 Leuchtturm 1917 cover.
Love my One Star Hobo cover. Pretty sure next for me is the Park Sloper.
A5 cover for me, good luck everyone.
I would get one of the great looking Parker Sloper wallets (a junior) for easy EDC! I love always carrying a Fisher space pen and this wallet seems like the perfect pairing! Although a shell watch band is very tempting too!

Hobonichi planner (A6) with Snap Closure and Pen Loop with Burgundy #8 (Exterior), Natural Veg (Interior), and Black Thread.
I met Keegan at the LA Pen Show this past weekend. His leather goods feel so nice in hand. I really wanted to get either the Field Notes sized cover or the A5 cover for my bullet journal, but my baby started melting down and it was game over for me at the pen show. Babies are the worst! Good thing they’re super cute.
I would go for a Leuchtturm 1917 A5 cover. I have several pieces by One Star and they are all first class.
Hobonichi A6 cover with pockets, snap closure and initials for my husband as anniversary present, classy but not pretentious.
It would have to be the build your own for the Hobinichi Cousin with a blue exterior and red interior. Thanks for the giveaway!
As a Hobonichi Techo user, I’d have to go with the same cover that’s in this review: the Build-Your-Own A6.
The 6 Pocket Horizontal Wallet. Great looking and the exact size wallet I’ve been looking for.
What an awesome prize. I would love the hobonichi weeks cover – black outer, blue inside, with the same blue thread as yours, with a snap closure
I love Keegan’s work. I’d want one of the Hobonichi covers without any closure.
Ooooh. Tough decision. Probably either a Travel Wallet or one of the 1917 A5 Covers.
I’d be all over an A5 notebook cover with a pen loop or a belt. So difficult to decide!
I would go for the Indie Pen Notebook leather cover. Pretty snazzy.
I love the Build-your-own cover for Hobonichi Weeks! With snap and pen loop.
Blue outside, Tan inside, with a blue thread…
Oh man, I think I just talked myself into buying one, regardless the outcome of the giveaway!
The double pen sleeve and a pocket notebook cover of course!

Absolutely the BUILD-YOUR-OWN – cover for Leuchtturm 1917 Pocket (A6) Notebook in Horween leather! It’s beautiful.
Absolutely the BUILD-YOUR-OWN – cover for Leuchtturm 1917 Pocket (A6) Notebook in Horween leather! It’s beautiful!
I have been looking at these a lot and I’m stuck between The Field Notes wallet and notebook, Horween Chromexcel leather and/or a build your own note book cover with a business cards, pen holders and Initials stamped on the outside bottom right hand of the cover.
I already have two wonderful pen sleeves, a single and a double, so my next quest is for a notebook cover. I just need to decide which notebook am I trying to fit in it?
Thanks Ed and OSLG for the giveaway. I would get a A5 or pocket notebook cover.
This was a very hard decision, but I think I’d have to get this belt for my husband: https://onestarleathergoods.patternbyetsy.com/listing/477413354/custom-sized-belt-125-width-horween
I LOVE leather and these leather products are beautifulllll
I’d go with the Standard Memorandum cover and one from my Fileld Notes.
Hobonichi cousin/card slots. Brown chromexcel.
Well I would have to choose between a pen case and notebook cover; maybe pocket size.
OSLG cover would work just fine.
I would love one of the wallets thanks for doing the giveaway
