Mike M Weekly Loadout 1

Mike’s Description (Top to Bottom):

  • The Lamy had this Omas ink in it, but I didn’t care for it, and it’s already been switched to Diamine Merlot. (Which I also don’t really care for.)
  • The VFM is new to me. I’ve gotten them as starter-pens for some people, but I never had my own. AndersonPens had free shipping for a while, so I got one. I wasn’t sure if I was going to give it away or keep it, so it stayed in the box until I gave in and started using it. That Ebony Brown ink is good stuff.
  • The Artista with Cacao du Bresil is fantastic. My wife got both for me for xmas, and this is a great combo.
  • Everyone knows about the Metropolitan, but the  Mont Blanc Balzac is pretty awesome. It’s super-bright.
  • The Franklin-Christoph is filled with one of the best greens that I’ve ever used. It was my xmas card ink, and I just keep using it. I might buy a full bottle of this stuff.

Favorite Combo:

The Artista with the J. Herbin ink is the favorite right now, but that might just be due to it being the newest of the bunch.

Least Favorite Combo:

The Omas ink is weak sauce. I know the pen is a good one, but that ink is seriously lacking.

Editor’s Note:

Nice vibrant loadout! I really need to get my hands on a Lamy Nexx, perhaps in my next order. I just got rid of my FC27, it just wasn’t doing it for me, but that blue with the silver cap looks awesome. Thanks for submitting your loadout!

Thanks for sharing!

  1. Soooo. Another week, another guy… where are all the ladies? Or do we just not have weekly load outs or something? I don’t have a specific set of pens that I use at a time, it’s just whatever is to hand and actually has ink in it (doesn’t need to be cleaned, heh!)

Just curious why there have only been guys featured on these load outs.

I definitely know it’s not cos there aren’t any female pen collectors or bloggers. What are the factors that prevent any from submitting (or being featured?) Is it cos this is an overly masculine presented blog (not saying it’s a bad thing at all, just seems like men gravitate towards the black/blue pens, black/blue inks and pocket notebooks which this blog is heavy on.)

Am I going to have to get a pic of my crazy beater $5 pens and pink no namers together to get some colour going? 😉

(really do love this feature btw, just get excited every time I see it in my inbox, but am always slightly disappointed it’s another guy.)

    1. The ladies need to step up their game! All of the Weekly Loadout posts are user-submitted, so I have no control over who sends me stuff to post.

The only people I have asked specifically to contribute were Brad Dowdy, Keegan from One Star Leather, and Mike Dudek from ClickyPost.com.

Please submit a loadout! I would be more than happy to feature anyone and everyone, regardless of gender or how many pink/purple/orange pens and inks they have. I think the blog tends to gravitate towards all things black and “masculine” because that’s my personal preference. I have a hard time shelling out money to review something that I’m not necessarily going to use. Please don’t misconstrue the lack of “feminine” stuff as sexism. Again, I’ll gladly feature anyone that takes the time to provide nice pictures and a description. I actually have a female-submitted loadout scheduled for the first week of April, so make sure to look out for that!

Thank you for your insight, it hasn’t been brought up before and I definitely think that I should expand outside of my normal “all black everything” a little more.

    2. I’m a lady (and regular reader). I’ll try to remember to submit my current submission. Full of mini pens and bright pretty inks 🙂

There are definitely tons of women collectors and bloggers in the FP community. I’d say it’s actually split pretty evenly. Maybe somebody should nudge GourmetPens or the WellAppointedDesk to submit their load out. I’ll bet they’re pretty colorful.

      1. Oh definitely a bunch of us, which is why it seemed odd to me that all I was seeing for loadout posts were guys.

My own blog & load outs are suffering because of health & house issues (leaky roof!) so I post & interact with the community mostly on Instagram.

I definitely agree about Gourmetpens, etc. !

And ooohhhh I LOVE mini pens! Share!

  2. So my orange, blue, silver, and yellow pens weren’t colorful enough? I’ll try to get my wife to send in a loadout, but you can check out our blogs for some of her nails and our pens on Wednesdays.

    1. Heh no I realised after the fact that I had finally decided to comment on one that had more than blue/black. (tho guys seem to be all about the blaze orange – why is that? I see a lot of orange inks and accessories on guy Instagrams.)

I will check out the blog tho! I’m a polish collector 🙂 I love me some shinies, however they come!
